Work & Social Justice: The David Bacon Photography Exhibit
2019 | TYPOGRAPHY + VISUAL SYSTEM | CONCEPT REDESIGN | PRINT & DIGITAL
The goal of this design project was to develop a three-piece typographic system for activist and photojournalist David Bacon’s photography exhibit: Work and Social Justice. The type system included a narrative component that became a museum brochure, an environmental piece that became museum wall graphics, a digital element that became a comprehensive website, and a poster series and flag banners for promotion.
My design process began with research into local museum exhibits. I found an exhibit with a digital component that while poignant and informative, lacked a cohesive visual and typographic design system. I visited the exhibit to gauge the scale of the wall graphics and for other visual considerations.
The final visual system incorporated a muted, yet compelling color palette with accent touches that offered contrast, linear graphic elements that framed content and mimicked the camera’s viewfinder, and the artist’s original, and high-resolution photography.
Deliverables: Poster series, flag banners, website, wall graphics, brochure
